 In the coming weeks we’ll be announcing our events for the summer season.  As usual you can expect to see us caricaturing at a variety of galas and fun days around the country.  There will be more cartoon workshops for children and a special project coinciding with the Olympic Games.  We’ll be making further updates and improvements to the website too.  Lots to look forward to!

Our Terry makes a brief appearance in the next episode, “The Painting Day” which can be seen on CBeebies at 11:05 on Friday the 23rd of March and on the BBC iPlayer website for seven days thereafter.

People live and leave their stories and a community is a place where stories collect.  In discovering and animating the stories of the people and the place we share our hopes, our fears, and our histories. We entertain, we teach and we learn.

We’ve just finished developing “Olympic Superghero” strips with P7 pupils at Kilmacolm Primary; look for those to appear on the Creative Communities site soon.  More on this project in the coming weeks.

Kirstin Zhang

Following a MLitt, Kirstin has completed the first year of a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow.  In 2005 she won the Scotsman Orange Short Story Award and in 2007 was shortlisted for the Harper’s Bazaar and Orange Short Story Prize. She has recently been commissioned to write a Japanese fairy story for New Fairy Tales, which will be published in 2012.

Our Brian turned 40 recently and the rest of us took the opportunity to draw him.  Comparing the different caricatures you can see common threads in the likenesses as well as choices unique to each artist’s interpretation.

It’s hard to imagine the “British Invasion” of talent into American comics – Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons, Kevin O’Neill, John McCrea, Duncan Fegredo, Glasgow’s own Grant Morrison, Mark Millar & Frank Quitely  and a host of others – without 2000AD being there to showcase their work.  For a brief time we played a tangental role in the history of the comic; former “art droid” Alex Ronald was with us for couple of years and produced pages for 2000AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine in our original premises .

Hats off to Pat Mills, John Wagner and the host of “Thargs” who followed.  Long may the title continue.
