Every so often a customer will take the trouble to get in touch and show us what they’ve done with our artwork once it leaves the Studio. Alex & Natasha Walker, recently married in Dorset, commissioned a caricature canvas for their big day and were kind enough to share photos of the wedding itself as well as the artwork finally on display in their home.
The Walkers started early, with Alex making his initial enquiry just after New Year’s Day this year. We corresponded over the following weeks, advising on price and timescale. These canvases are painted in acrylics and built up in stages with drying time required between each and so are a bit more time consuming than a lot of the work we do. We generally advise couples to allow a month to get a canvas caricature completed.
Right on schedule, we got photos from Natasha at the beginning of March. Like any caricature, a wedding canvas is only as good as the reference material provided by the customer. Natasha made sure to give clear, recent pictures of herself and Alex as well as plenty of shots of the bridal gowns, veil, shoes, jewellery, flowers, the groom’s outfit and an indication of how they’d be wearing their hair. They picked a background colour that fitted with the scheme for their wedding as well as a “carrying over the threshold” pose .
The canvas was completed just after Easter and delivered to the Walkers a week in advance of their wedding. On the day, the painting was signed by well-wishers instead of a guestbook.
“We’d just like a say a massive thank you for painting the canvas for our wedding. We absolutely love it and so many of our guests commented on the likeness. It looks fabulous in our home too – thank you!
Best wishes,
Natasha and Alex “
