UPDATE: the exhibition has now closed and received over 73,000 visitors during its run. We thank all who supported #fizzers10!
2016 marks a decade of FIZZERS®, the Scottish Cartoon Art Studio’s trademark collection of caricature artwork featuring famous faces from around the world. To celebrate the People’s Palace & Winter Gardens, Glasgow will present Fizzers: 10 Years of Caricature for (appropriately) a ten month run from the end of May.
UPDATE: click below for images from our preview night with special guest, actress and comedienne Elaine C Smith.
For this retrospective show the five artists in the Studio team have selected key pieces, personal favourites and never-before-exhibited work from our collection of over 400 caricatures. Visitors will be treated to displays of humorous, exaggerated cartoon portraits of top personalities from the worlds of music, sport, film and television.
The People’s Palace is the museum of Glasgow’s social history so we’ll also be including plenty of local heroes. And in a nod to current events a special section dedicated to this year’s US presidential elections will be unveiled.
Interactive digital labels and hands-on activities will add to the fun at a unique exhibition suitable for all ages. We encourage you to share images of your visit online and remember to use the hashtag #fizzers10
Studio Head Chris Sommerville says: “It’s hard to believe ten years of Fizzers have flown by, from our debut at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and on through all our other projects, big and small, to this new and most exciting version.”
Studio Co-ordinator Terry Anderson adds: “Our 2009 show at the People’s Palace was one of the most popular in the museum’s history, receiving over eighty thousand visitors. We look forward to repeating that success in 2016.”
