Time once again to take stock as the Studio’s 15th anniversary year draws to a close.
First and foremost everyone in Scotland was caught up in the debate surrounding the vote on independence. We organised a touring exhibition of cartoons about the referendum entitled The Auld Acquaintance, featuring contributions from dozens of talented artists from thirty-seven different nations. Ultimately the show was seen at five different locations around Europe between April and November. If you missed the exhibition you can read more about it here as well as elsewhere on this blog.
In large part the exhibition marked the our 15th anniversary, which rolled around in May. We also launched a brand new service: live digital caricature at events using iPad technology. We’re the first caricaturists in Scotland to offer this option to our customers. After being invited to demonstrate the technique at the Apple Store we were soon drawing at venues in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. We look forward to entertaining visitors at more corporate events in 2015.
Digital caricatures are great but they won’t replace our traditional pen and ink work. The year’s highlight on that front was undoubtedly drawing athletes and staff at the XXth Commonwealth Games here in Glasgow. Since the events caused so much excitement in our home town it was a point of pride for the Studio team to be the only cartoonists participating.
As usual it’s been a year filled commissions and bookings for business consultants, colleges & universities, health organisations, local authorities, tv producers and of course many individual customers too. We’ve had team members drawing at events across the country in Argyll, Dumfriesshire, Dundee, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Falkirk, Fife, Lancashire, Moray, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Perth & Kinross, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, Stirling and West Lothian.
